HP: Public Sector
Some work we did for HP, specifically on the Public Sector side of the hp.com web site. We continue that work today, lending both consulting expertise to ongoing projects as well as daily management of HP's public sector web assets.
Background: Hewlett Packard, or HP, is one of the largest corporations in the world. With $97 billion in annual revenues and more than 150,000 employees worldwide, HP has grown both organically and through targeted acquisition. Recently, following a period of steady acquisition, HP has aggressively streamlined its operations through workforce realignment, outsourcing, and overall cost reduction. Throughout a period of rapid change, NetComm was a consistent element in HP's approach to public sector marketing, and has been for the past seven years. Primary Goal: NetComm's initial mandate was to take some 300 individual pages of content from HP's public sector marketing site and make them easier to maintain.
Solution: Implementing a customized content management system, NetComm distilled a number of disconnected sites into about 30 individual templates capable of displaying thousands of pages. We streamlined and organized HP's Web site to follow corporate presentation guidelines, and built a system that was flexible and expansive enough to handle changes over time.
Result: Today HP can link content and target marketing to specific federal agencies or states within broad lines of business. Further, by mapping public sector entities to a hierarchical model, the system can allow individual agencies to inherit content that is applicable across all of the federal government, while still allowing for more targeted marketing at the agency level. NetComm's primary responsibility is the infrastructure-the back and front ends of the dynamic page system and navigational elements, and translating from techno-speak to English and back again to ensure technical requirements are met. Yet NetComm is more than just a vendor, but rather, a trusted partner involved in overall strategy, from the inception of ideas and development of business scenarios through technical implementation.
