The EIN Finder is Web-based software that compiles employer tax information data published by the federal government into an easily searchable information resource.
Background: The EIN Finder is a database-driven Web site that compiles employer tax information published by the federal government into an easily searchable information resource. Site visitors may purchase limited or unlimited access to this data as needed.
Primary Goal: The EIN Finder's design was to be clean but professional and, through content and graphics, to direct the visitor to purchase access to the information, or to log in to an existing account. Once access was granted, a simple but powerful data search was to be employed to allow users to find, print, and download the data they required as quickly as possible. Because the searchable database is the core feature of the software, the site design was to be kept straightforward and simple.
Solution: NetComm created a fixed-width shell design to house the content and general image-based graphics. Account-holders may log in to the software on any page of the site through a simple prompt that appears on all pages. Non-account holders either sign up, try the system, or follow a linear set of informational links to learn more. At any time, the user may click to the subscription purchase page to obtain access.
To keep the need for Web site developers to a minimum, NetComm developed cascading style sheets and page templates to streamline the basic look and feel of the site. Site content data and account information are managed through the back office administration system, and may be updated as required by EIN Finder administrators or by technical staff.
Result: The EIN Finder was launched in late June 2007. Without any real marketing to date, thousands of visitors have been quick to subscribe for trial accounts.
